Biomass Fuel

Biomass Fuel Biomass materials  are used since millennia for meeting myriad human needs including energy. Main sources of biomass energy are trees, crops and animal waste. Until the middle of 19th century, biomass dominated the global energy supply with a seventy percent share (Grubler and Nakicenovic, 1988). Among the biomass energy sources, wood fuels are the most prominent. With rapid increase in fossil fuel use, the share of biomass in total energy declined steadily through substitution by coal in the nineteenth century and later by refined oil and gas during the twentieth century. Despite its declining share in energy, global consumption of wood energy has continued to grow. During 1974 to 1994, global wood consumption for energy grew annually by over 2 percent rate (Figure 1). Presently, the biomass sources contribute 14% of global energy and 38% of energy in developing countries (Woods and Hall, 1994). Globally, the energy content of biomass residues in agriculture based ...

Invisible Vehicle

Invisible Vehicle Everyone from Harry Potter to Frodo Baggins has already got an invisibility cloak. But scientists have now figured out how to make an entire car disappear. Using optical camouflage technology boffins at Mercedes Benz created the illusion that their new zero emissions F-Cell car is not even there at all. taking the principal that to see through something you need to see what's behind it, they covered the driver's side of the car in mats of LEDs, and mounted a digital SLR camera on the opposite side of the vehicle. The camera shoots video on the passenger side of the car and the video is displayed in real time on the driver side of the automobile. This ingenious approach, originally pioneered by scientists at the University of Tokyo, works on the same principles of the blue screen used by TV weather forecasters and Hollywood filmmakers. The idea also mimics the iPad 2 Halloween costume that seems to displays a gaping hole in the human body....

High Tech Vechicles

High Tech Vechicles To cope up the burning problem of high priced and vanishing fossil fuels; with research in renewable energies, we should think for utilization of present amount of fuels in most efficient way. This need gives rise to advancement in design, construction and control of automotive engines. This has given rise to new generation of more developed, light, fuel efficient “High Tech” vehicles. Recent innovations in engine design and control have been adopted very widely and rapidly. In this paper, we are concentrating on Control Systems in automobiles as these have direct contribution in fuel economy. For the engine to run, it must have good compression ratio, properly timed spark ignition, proportionate air-fuel mixture and enough hot sparks to ignite the mixture. If any of these conditions is missing, the engine won’t start or run properly and finally it affects fuel economy. Air-fuel Injection, Ignition, Exhaust Systems are the main components of control system...

Flying Cars Technology

Flying Cars Technology: ‘Flying car ’, ‘roadable aircraft’, ‘dual-mode vehicle’ and other terms are used to describe the all-purpose vehicle that can fly like an airplane and drive on the highway like an automobile. Make it amphibious and we have the perfect all-purpose vehicle! Nevertheless, this might be taking our ideas a bit too far. It has long been the dream of aviation and automobile enthusiasts to have a vehicle that will bring them the best of both worlds. Many drivers stuck in rush hour traffic have fantasies about being able to push a button and watch their car’s wings unfurl as they lift above the stalled cars in front of them. Just as many pilots who have been grounded at an airport far from home by inclement weather have wished for some way to wheel their airplane out onto the highway and drive home. This yearning has resulted in many designs for roadable aircraft since as early as 1906. A designer of a flying car will encounter many obstacles, including con...

Testing and performance of IC engines

Testing and Performance of Ic Engines With a growing demand for  transportation ,  IC engines  have gained lot of importance in  automobile industry . It is therefore necessary to produce efficient and economical engines. While developing an IC engine it is required to take in consideration all the parameters affecting the engines design and performance. There are enormous parameters so it becomes difficult to account them while designing an engine. So it becomes necessary to conduct tests on the engine and determine the measures to be taken to improve the engine's performance. Internal Combustion Engine

Internal Combustion Engine An  internal combustion engine  ( ICE ) is a heat engine where the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer (usually air) in acombustion chamber that is an integral part of the working fluid flow circuit. In an internal combustion engine the expansion of the high-temperature and high-pressure gases produced by combustion applies direct force to some component of the engine. The force is applied typically to pistons, turbine blades, rotor or a nozzle. This force moves the component over a distance, transforming chemical energy into useful mechanical energy. The first commercially successful internal combustion engine was created by Étienne Lenoir around 1859 [1]  and the first modern internal combustion engine was created in 1876 by Nikolaus Otto (see  Otto engine ). The te...
